Transforming lives with precision SMP
As an SMP practitioner, there is no greater reward than seeing someone look in the mirror and being thrilled by their natural-looking, restored reflection.
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Losing your hair doesn’t have to interfere with your self-confidence. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is the answer for anybody looking for a realistic and low-maintenance solution for hair loss. It is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that replicates the appearance of natural hair follicles.
SMP can help men and women with…
Hairline restoration:
Get back your original hairline. We can recreate your front hairline if the original hair has receded.
Balding:
We create the illusion of a fuller head of hair by replicating the appearance of hair follicles, effectively concealing balding areas.
Density fill:
We can work within the remaining hair to create a more even look. Tiny ink dots simulate the look of denser hair and thicker and fuller locks. We can give alopecia sufferers, those with autoimmune disorders, chemotherapy survivors and women undergoing hormonal changes a guaranteed solution.
Scar coverage:
The SMP impressions camouflage scars on the scalp by depositing pigment into the scar tissue and blending it with the surrounding hair follicles.
How does SMP work?
SMP solves hair loss issues from receding hairlines to thinning to pattern baldness one minute impression at a time.
A form of cosmetic tattooing, SMP is a semi-permanent procedure using tiny needles to implant pigment into the scalp. It is suitable for both men and women. The needles make very small impressions in the hairline and scalp area that look like hair follicles. When carried out by a skilled professional, such as Lacey, SMP is virtually undetectable to the naked eye.

Frequently asked Questions
Is it the same as normal tattooing?
This is a form of cosmetic tattoo, but specialised needles and pigment are used during scalp micropigmentation. We use different ink from traditional tattoo ink or permanent make-up pigments. The pigments used in SMP are distilled water-based, so they better resist fading or colour change; you get a longer lasting result.
SMP is only performed on the skin surface. Pigments are put into the skin of the scalp about 0.5 mm deep, making it safer treatment than traditional tattoos. Once implanted, this special ink sets to replicate tiny, crisp, clear hair follicles. Around 20,000 – 30,000 impressions are needed for full scalp coverage.
But what about my hair colour?
By blending pigments, we can colour match virtually any hair colour. If you have greyed, we can use a soft grey pigment, so the stubble looks natural. Keeping the white hair shaved every few days keeps the light from reflecting off it too much.
What if I don’t have short hair?
SMP can be performed on short or long hair. Expert practitioners like Lacey mimic the size, shape, and density of natural hair follicles. SMP is particularly effective for individuals with short hair; the tiny pigment dots give that neatly shaven look or ‘5 o’clock shadow’. If you have fine stubble all over, keeping the hair very short with clippers every few days is recommended. Once hair loss is more advanced, using a shaver is the best way to maintain a smooth look.
If you have longer hair, scalp micropigmentation gives the illusion of density and volume. We place pigments using fine dots between the hair to reduce the visibility of the scalp.
SMP works no matter your curl pattern or hair’s natural thickness. Lacey will be able to adjust the micro dots to suit.
How long does SMP last and what about maintenance?
Unlike other hair restoration methods, SMP requires minimal maintenance. Fading may occur over time, depending on sun exposure, so we recommend touch-ups once every two to five years. There are various factors that contribute to how well somebody holds pigment in their skin, but we do strongly recommend the use of SPF as it will help to hold the results better for longer.
